2. Hosting and server logs

This website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Gunzenhausen, Germany. Every time a page or file is requested, the web server writes an entry to its access log containing:

Purpose: operating the website and keeping it secure, for example finding errors and fending off attacks.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is the secure and reliable operation of this website.

Retention: 52 days. The logs are rotated daily, and each one is deleted after 52 days.

3. Local storage in your browser

The game keeps your pilots, progress, settings and high scores in your browser's local storage under the key downburst.save.v1, plus a backup copy under downburst.save.v1.bak. This data stays on your device. It is never transmitted to us or anyone else.

After a graphics crash, the game also notes the time of the crash under the key downburst.gpuReset, so that it starts with low graphics quality for the next 24 hours. This note stays on your device and is never transmitted to us or anyone else.

You can delete it at any time by clearing this website's data in your browser settings. Single pilots can also be deleted in the game (PILOT, then DELETE PILOT).

Storing this data is strictly necessary to provide the game you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG), so no consent is required.

If you open the game with ?diag=1 for troubleshooting, it also keeps a diagnostic log on your device under the keys downburst.diag, downburst.diag.log and downburst.diag.gpu: a short list of start-up steps and errors with their times, your Android and Chrome version, and a summary of your graphics hardware. It stays on your device and is never transmitted to us or anyone else. Opening the game with ?diag=0 deletes it.

Earlier versions of the game used keys starting with kestrel. instead of downburst.: on the first start, an existing kestrel.save.v1 or kestrel.gpuReset entry is copied unchanged to its new key and the old entry is then removed (if the new key already exists, the game uses it and leaves the old entry alone); any other old kestrel. entries stay on your device until you clear this website's data.
